Step 1: Update 1Password from the Mac App Store
Open the App Store, then click Updates. If updates are available, install them. If no updates are available, go to the next step.
Step 2: Quit 1Password completely
Open 1Password. Hold down the Control and Option keys on your keyboard and choose 1Password > Quit 1Password Completely from the menu bar.
In 1Password 6 and earlier, choose “Quit 1Password and 1Password mini” instead.

Step 3: Download 1Password from the 1Password website
Download 1Password from the 1Password website and install it. Open 1Password, and you’ll see the Welcome screen. After you set up the app, you’ll see all your Logins, Secure Notes, and other data.
The version of 1Password from our website requires its own license or a 1Password membership.
All your preferences will be reset, so if you were previously using an advanced sync option, reconfigure your sync settings.
Step 4: Check for older versions of 1Password
In Finder, open the Applications folder. If you see “1Password” or “1Password 6”, move it to the Trash. Keep only “1Password 7”.
Important
Be careful with uninstaller apps like AppCleaner, AppZapper, CleanApp, and more. Uninstaller apps prompt you to delete supporting files when moving an app to the Trash, and this could accidentally delete all your 1Password data.
